I figured this would be a good place to share research links, family links, sausage links, or anything related to the Martin family. If you are a Martin and you have a website that you would like to share with your relatives, let me know and I'll add it. If you already have a Martin genealogy site going, I'd love to add it. If you are a visitor and you'd like to put a link to your favorite Dallas Cowboy website, sorry. I'm the opposite of a Cowboy fan! :)

Genealogy sites of interest:

Henry Hillard was born in Pike County, Alabama in 1800. The family spent some time there. I found that there are some very helpful people attached to the Pike Co. email group at: groups.yahoo.com/group/pike-county .

Likewise, groups.yahoo.com/group/alabamagenealogy can provide research support.

However, a greatly supportive and active group, groups.yahoo.com/group/genealogy-101 provides many genealogical tips and research assistance.

Ancestry.com - Wonderful resource, if you have an extra couple hundred bucks to throw at them. Many online documents and very helpful people with customer support. If you already own a subscription, I'd love to beg for a few more searches. :)

new TxGenWeb2.org is a great genealogy site for Texas ancestors. This site had great information for two family cemeteries.

Family sites:

This may be a good place for your family website, your blog, or a photo index you maintain.

Mancubmartin.com - Okay, I'll go first. :) This website has been loosely maintained since John was known as Cletus the Fetus. Lots of back issue archives!

I'm trying to keep up a blog (internet web log, or journal) about my genealogy research attempts. Feel free to view mymartinfamily.blogspot.com. (Blogging is incredibly easy! I had 5th graders regularly using a blog last spring. I'll tell you more if you are personally interested.)

Downloadable History Files:

new Google Earth is a free downloadable application used for mapping the Earth. (Download at earth.google.com) If you have Google Earth installed, you should be able to download and open this kmz file. This is my first attempt at recording some of my daddy's stories about the old El Campo homestead.

TxGenWeb2.org is a great genealogy site. I was able to find a few useful things online that could be downloaded.

The 5th Alabama Infantry Muster Roll. I got this file from Ken Jones and am posting it as a pdf file. Your browser will either download it or view it in a window.

Miscellaneous sites:

Apple.com - If you really knew me, you knew this was going to be on here! It's not for everyone, but they're built like were.

Earth.google.com - I have located some historical places important to the Martin family and have placed them in a kmz file. You can have a great time with the free Google Earth program on your Mac or pc for free.
